Tourism in Lovran
Lovran has developed on the steep eastern slopes of Učka and it took its name in the seventh century from Laurel(laurus nobilis),which grows abundantly in the evergreen groves in the town and environs. Lovran is situated on the eastern shore of Istrian peninsula, 5 kilometres from Opatija. The city protector is St.Juraj,and the church named after him is located in the main square as well as the tower nowadays used as a gallery. Lovran has a lot of beautiful parks and gardens,and two well-preserved tourist attractions are city gate Stubica and Lovran port Mandrać.
History and culture of Lovran
Lovran is surrounded by defensive walls and has three doors closed at night. Villa Fernandea-depandance Belvedere was the first tourist facility built in 1873. Between Lovran and Ika there are a lot of villas built in gothic and venetian style, some of them are Villa Frappart, Villa Magnolia and Villa Santa Maria.
