TRAIL RUNNING VELEBIT MOUNTAIN LAST EUROPEAN WILDERNESS

THE PROGRAM:
A new challenge awaits you. We've prepared another fabulous trail running adventure for all of you running fans. The Last European wilderness is about 52 kilometers and covers over 1.900 meters elevation gain throughout 3 running stages. Velebit mountain has long been known as a paradise for runners, climbers and hikers and karst terrain, varied landscape and over 150 kilometers of marked trails ranks this park among the most attractive area for fans of running.

TRAVELING / ACTIVITIES OF EXCURSIONS:
Daily program

1st day: Arrival day. Transfer from Zadar or Split airport to your accommodation. Meet and Greet and briefing by our guide. Dinner and overnight.

2nd day: Breakfast, fast walking (warming up), streching and start of the 1st stage. Velika Paklenica Canyon Trail – 17km with +400m elevation gain (e.g.); -400m elevation loss (e.l.). Highest point: mountain lodge Lugarnica 400m/asl; Terrain: macadam 90%, rocky 10%. Dinner and overnight stay.

3rd day: Breakfast in the hotel. Warm up and transfer from hotel Alan to village Reljan. 2nd stage Three Canyons Trail – 24km with +1.400m e.g.; -1.400m e.l.. Highest point: Black Top 1.100m/asl; Terrain: karst soil 80%, soft ground 20%. Finish: mountain hut Ramića Dvori. Traditional lunch called *peka* followed by a homemade brandy, herbal tea, natural juice and honey degustation from Velebit herbs. Return by a path that leads to the very bottom of Velika Paklenica canyon along the creek Paklenica to the Velika Paklenica upper lot (app. walking time 1.15h). Dinner and overnight.

4th day: After breakfast free morning for swimming and walking. Walking (warming up), streching and start of the 3rd stage. Afternoon trail with sunset - Old Villages Trail – 11,5km with +125m e.g.; -125m e.l.. Highest point: village Jusupi 50m/asl; Terrain: 90% macadam, 10% asphalt. Dinner and overnight.

5th day: Breakfast and transfer to Zadar or Split airport. Departure!

Velebit mountain has long been known as a paradise for hikers, runners, cyclist and climbers and karst terrain, varied landscape and over 150 kilometers of marked trails rank this park among the most attractive area for outdoor people.

TRAVELING / ACTIVITIES OF EXCURSIONS:
Daily program

1st day - Arrival day: Fly in to Split/Zadar airport and transfer to the hotel in Starigrad-Paklenica, Croatia. Starigrad-Paklenica is renowned for its climate, beautiful landscapes and the surrounding mountains. The tranquil surroundings will give you a chance to have a good rest after your trip before setting off on this hiking adventure.



2nd day - Exploring the old villages and Riviera Paklenica: After breakfast we'll have a meeting to get all information about days ahead and get to know Riviera Paklenica. Transfer to the entrance of National park Paklenica. An educational trail begins near the entrance to the National Park Paklenica along the left bank of the river where we are visiting the old, renovated Paklenica Mill which, along with the other six mills, supplied the population of Podgorje with flour. We continue further on till the lookout Paklarić that offers a panoramic view of Starigrad, in the past times also known as Argyruntum. Paklarić Fort was built in the late Middle Ages (14-16 c.) on the ruins and remains of prehistoric drystone walls. It is believed that this defense facility's purpose was to control the significant communication that through Paklenica was leading from the sea to the Lika region and vice versa.

Upon our return from the Paklarić Fort, the educational trail takes us on a journey through the past villages where life is coming back again. At the end of this interesting path, we descent to the sea, and walk along the beach and enjoying the great view on mountains. Transfer to small village across the Velebit chanell, Vinjerac to a tavern with an excellent selection of fish and other sea food. After lunch, transfer back to hotel. Dinner and overnight in the hotel.

3rd day - Cycling Paklenica National Park: Breakfast. Today we take our bikes and explore the Paklenica Riviera. We start from the hotel and bike through small villages under the mountain. The road will take us to the entrance of the National Park (NP). From there we will follow an educational trail along the border of the NP that will lead us through old villages all the way to Reljan village.

The educational trail *A Short Journey through History* is a part of a pedestrian and bike trail. It is equipped with five educational/informative panels presenting the history of the area from prehistoric times to the present day. On our way back to Starigrad, we will discover small roads and enjoy the view. Basic cycling experience is needed. We use professional KONA bicycles, and each group gets a trained guide. You will get a helmet, a bicycle and safety instructions. Extra gear and tools are provided. Shorts or a bathing suit, a T-shirt and sport shoes are all you need to wear. Don't forget your sun cream, water and lunch package. Dinner and overnight in the hotel.



4th day - Viewpoint tour: After early breakfast, transfer to the entrance of Paklenica National Park. Hiking that passes by the right edge of the Velika Paklenica Canyon and reveals views of the most salient points of National Park Paklenica. A pretty interesting tour for your camera. Upon arrival at a mountain hut and a traditional lunch called *peka* followed by a homemade brandy, natural juice, herbal tea and honey (Velebit herbs) degustation we visit Sklopina site (17th century), houses made of stone built into the cracks in the rock. Return by a path that leads to the very bottom of the Velika Paklenica canyon along the creek Paklenica where you can freshen up. Transfer to hotel. Dinner and overnight in the hotel.



5th day - Cycling & hiking Nature Park Velebit: After breakfast we will start today's trip with transfer up to the village Veliki Vaganac (700m/asl). From this point we continue our trip with bike all the way up to the Veliko and Malo Rujno. Some parts of the area belong to the protected National Park Paklenica. Veliko and Malo Rujno are karst plateaus which make the most widespread and flatest Velebit terrace which is 7 km long and 1 km wide. The plateau is surrounded with the all time visible summits like Bojinac, Golić and Višerujna. Bojinac top is geomorphic phenomena, one of the most beautiful rocky landscapes in Croatia. Upon arrival at Malo Rujno and break (packed lunch) we are descending down all the way to the Starigrad – Paklenica. Dinner and overnight in the hotel.



6th day - Three canyons tour: Breakfast. This interesting tour begins with an off-road vehicles. The tour passes over three canyons carved vertically into the southern slopes of the longest Croatian mountain Velebit. At the very beginning of the trip we will have the opportunity to see the old rural farm in order to get to know Velebit lifestyle a litle more closely. Here you can see wild horses, Istrian boškarins (an indigenous Istrian cattle, nowadays in danger of extinction) and other domestic animals while enjoying stunning views over the reef and the highest peaks of Velebit. After passing two canyons we descend down to Starigrad-Paklenica over Velika Paklenica Canyon. Dinner and overnight in the hotel.



7th day - Departure: On day 7 the tour is completed and after breakfast you have a transfer scheduled to take you back to the airport.

Starigrad-Paklenica is renowned for its climate, beautiful landscapes and the surrounding mountains. 4th day - Day of rest; discover the beatuful Paklenica riviera: The fourth day is reserved for a rest and we stay in the town of Starigrad-Paklenica in order for you to relax. Starigrad-Paklenica, the center of the Paklenica Riviera, arose on the foundations of the ancient Roman city of Argyruntum. Today it is a lively tourist center with somewhat more than one thousands inhabitants, who exchanged their traditional manner of life in the foothills of the Velebit for life alongside the sea some half a century ago.

6th day - Adriatic day: On day six, you will have free time for yourself with possible boat excursion to the islands of Kornati National Park. The Kornati National Park is often mentioned as *nautical paradise* in tourist publications. And really, in *slalom* sailing through the 89 unforgettable islands, islets and reefs in the Kornati National Park. The Kornati National Park covers the bigger part of the Kornati waters. Because of their exceptional landscape beauty, interesting geomorphology, highly jagged and indented coast as well as because of rich communities of the submarine eco-system, the islands were made a national park in 1980.

7th day - City tour of Zadar (the best European destination in 2016): After breakfast possible excursion to Zadar with transfer to Zadar (1h). City tour (2h). Somewhere near the Mt. Velebit, there is a place where fertile Ravni kotari, blue Adriatic Sea and a magnificient archipelago meet and greet each other. At this intersection there is a living time machine. This time machine will launch you through the solar system and while being accompanied by a sweet melody of the Sea Organ you will be flying through millennia of Zadar history – an ancient city of which some might say it is older even than Rome itself.

City of Zadar – proclaimed the best European destination in 2016!

If you look beyond the scars of the recent war, away from the socialist legacy, behind the ruins of the Second World War, you will see the regional center of the Habsburg Monarchy and the Venetian protectorate. Behind the walls that were once protecting Europe from the Otomane empire in this medieval royal city you will discover traces of 4th crusade peacefully resting on the foundations of a Roman colony. Two hours of time travel will take you from the technological 21st century to the hard stone of the ancient civilization. And back. Other important things, such as tastes, smells, colors and valuables, you shall be discovering by yourself in many picturesque cafes and restaurants, narrow streets, amazing museums and beautiful churches. Do not forget – it is local people who supply the time machine with their life energy – the time machine called the city of Zadar! After the city tour, transfer to the Zadar/Split airport.

THE CITY OF ZADAR - Running for those who can't


THE PROGRAM:
Wings for Life is an international not-for-profit spinal cord research foundation. Their mission is to find a cure for spinal cord injuries. They fund world-class scientific research and clinical trials around the globe aimed at healing the injured spinal cord.

The Croatian Wings for Life World Run returns to the beautiful, picturesque city of Zadar. The track starts next to the Roman Forum, and St. Donatus' Church, the city's popular landmarks, then continues through the city center, heading toward the Adriatic highway, passing by the famous city walls which in the past allowed the town to retain its independence.

From the starting point in Zadar to the lovely town of Primosten, where the last runners are supposed to end their race, the track passes through many beautiful and pictoresque seaside places.
